Interview with DJ TNT from Supasound Entertainment

How and how long ago did you all get started?

I started in 1998, as an aspiring DJ, looking to fill a void in his young life. Just playing. for real I did start in 1998, I think I bought my turntables in Dec 1997..in New York I might add, where I also bought my first record-Groove Theory Tell me. Still use it and still love the song.

How did you get the name and how S.O.S come together?

The name TNT I got actually through hours of thinking with my room mates in university. I first came out with the name Mista Mix (that was going no where). TNT was derived from The Northern Touch, that's the name I started using. I used this name for two reasons-my mom grew up in the northern part of her homeland and I love the song (rascalz, checkmate, Kardinal and thrust-choclair coming down with the northern touch).

Me and SOS met in University as well through a common friend, and our first gig was a garage party in Waterloo. After that we came up with a crew name (Supasound Entertainment)..then we acquired two more guys on our team (DJ Ruckus and DJ Maximus) and the rest is history.

What Dj's have you enjoyed playing with?

I have played a lot with Dj Clymaxxx and it has always been a pleasure. I have enjoyed playing with Baba Kahn, very cool and easy to get a long with. Played for the first time this year with DJ Wicked ..pretty chill guy. Played alongside DVS many times as well and I like his style too. As well DJ Jiten and Double AA are cool to work with .I have played with almost all the dj's but these ones stick out the most.

What is you favourite Style of Music to Play?

I love playing Hip Hop, just because you can do so much more than just regular beat matching and mixing, where it actually sounds good. But my favorite has to be reggae,I just love it, it gets the crowd nuts, the flow is always hype, and the songs are in and out quick.

Best Club you have played at:

I love playing at the Drink, love the crowd, love the atmosphere, the vibe everything is insane. Recently I spun at Helium on a saturday with DJ Kid C,Clymaxxx, and Wicked..and I loved it. Crowd is great, and drinks are cheap. Other clubs I have enjoyed include Revolution in Waterloo, Cafe Havana, Halo, and Karma to a name a few.

What changes do you see in the club scene on a positive and a negative over the past few years.ie crowd, club owners,dj's promoters:

Well to some degree I see the crowds getting cleaner, less major injuries, still some fights but you can't totally ignore that. I think more and more people are about having a good time, jamming and drinking. The Clubs are getting bigger, but charging more. This I see as a problem, because that means less bar sales, which means less happy owners, which could mean less parties to choose from ..therefore possibly less work for me..that's not a good thing (ha ha).

In terms of dj's I see more diversity in the ethnic background of dj's, I also see many parties with drum and base dj' s at hip hop parties and vice versa. This is good to see more of a mix and different crowds coming together. I guess much of that has to do with different types of promoters coming to together as well.
